Cloud 4 in the Spotlight: Presencing, the capacity we need most …

Presencing, the capacity we need most …

Otto Scharmer and Katrin Kaufer – senior lecturer and action researchers at MIT - start their recent book ‘Presencing’ with these lines: “In this time of accelerated breakdown and disruption, the capacity we need most is our capacity to sense and actualize the highest future possibility – the future ‘that stays in need of us’ to manifest. That is what we call presencing.”

As we had many valuable and impactful experiences with presencing in Cloud 4, we are eager to further explore presencing and its impact in education together with you in our cloud activities around this year’s cloud theme: Exploring presencing in education: transforming self, learning and society.

For now, we would like to invite you to take a moment (12 minutes) to watch the following video clip in which Otto Scharmer talks about presencing, the U-process, two sources of learning and leadership, and about the MITx MOOC U-lab from which this clip originates. As announced in our previous post, we intend to participate in the 2026 edition of this MOOC with an enthusiastic group of EAPRIL Cloud members who are interested in changing in their own educational environments.
